Tracker-based games provide a great opportunity to maximize the exercises you are already tracking with your Apple Watch, Fitbit, or Garmin tracker. Whether you are logging walks, runs, or power zone bike rides, you can use our challenges to further your efforts.
Working out a few times a week can morph into four 20- or 30-minute cardio sessions while our running and walking challenges can up your step goal or lend structure to your running plans.
Visit your profile in the WayBetter app, and then tap “Trackers” to add your devices, and follow these challenge basics to stay on top of your games.
Cardio, running, and distance-based walking games
For these challenges, you must start and stop your activity on your wrist-based tracking device. The only time an activity should be started on the phone is for running and distance-based walking games when you are using Strava or Runkeeper to track. Both Strava and Runkeeper offer free versions you can sync to WayBetter.
Starting and stopping the activity on the watch ensures your device sends us all of its data in the proper format. Common options for workouts include indoor walk or treadmill, outdoor walk, indoor run, outdoor run, mixed cardio, kickboxing, HIIT or functional strength training.
Avoid pausing the device while working out as this can interfere with your stats, and remember, edited data or data you type into the device will not count. It must be recorded by the device only.
Stepping games
WayBetter hosts two types of stepping games. One variety requires a photo upload showing your stats for the day. These games are perfect when you have a tracker that is not compatible with the WayBetter app. Upload your step count photo on the day the activity occurs, and verify you completed submitting (you will see a green checkmark on "today" in your game), to avoid missing credit for your efforts.
For syncing step games, connect your tracker from your profile page and start walking. Remember, you can only use Apple, Garmin, and Fitbit to record steps. You cannot connect a different device to these providers.
Apple steps must be earned via the iPhone or Apple Watch, and Garmin and Fitbit steps must be earned by those devices. Connecting VeryFitPro, Pedometer+, and other third-party trackers will lead to erroneous steps recording in your device, and those steps will not sync to us as they are not validated by your tracker. Steps added to your step count by typing in activities do not count, so it’s best to avoid using other trackers or adding activities to your devices.
Always defer to the WayBetter app as your best indication of progress to your stepping goal and check daily to ensure you are reaching your milestones – this also provides an excellent opportunity to chat with other players and celebrate your accomplishments.
