How do you play?
First, we’ll calculate your personalized step goals. After connecting a tracker to the WayBetter app, you'll be prompted to verify your source of steps. WayBetter will look at your historic step data from that source to calculate your goals. You will have two goals: an Active goal and a Power goal. Active goals are intended to help you stay consistent and increase your activity, while Power goals are to help you push yourself beyond your usual activity level.
Once you have your goals, it's time to place your financial commitment. Woohoo, you're in the game, now what?
Time to get stepping! You must hit your Active goal for 4 days and your Power goal for 1 day (you have 2 rest days). If you miss your weekly goal, you’re out of the running to win the game. But if you hit your goals each week, you win and split the pot with the other winners!
What is the syncing deadline?
While WayBetter will auto-sync your steps, it is your responsibility as the player to make sure that your tracker is properly connected and syncing daily. All players must sync their activity tracker with WayBetter by the end of the game.
As a best practice, we recommend syncing daily. You’ll know you’ve hit your goals when you see Week Complete at the end of each week and Winner at the end of the game!
What is warm-up week?
There is no warm-up week for this game.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are available up to 3 days after the game starts.
How are my Active and Power goals calculated?
After you connect your activity tracker, we’ll use your step history to calculate personalized Active and Power goals that are manageable but challenging for your level. If you don’t have any stepping history associated with your tracker, we’ll use accessible default goals based on the game type.
We cannot manually adjust your goals as they are determined by stepping history or pre-determined levels for the game. However, if something looks way off, please don’t hesitate to provide your feedback to our Customer Support team (support@waybetter.com)!
If I’ve already hit all my Power days for the week and then hit another Power day, will it count as an Active day?
Yes! If you have hit all of your Power days for the week and still have Active days left to hit, additional Power days will count toward your Active days. When in doubt, aim for your higher daily stepping goal to ensure you never miss a day!
What activity trackers work with the stepping game, and how do I connect mine?
WayBetter currently supports the following activity trackers:
Garmin Trackers
iPhone Apple Health via phone
iPhone Apple Watch
iPhone Fitbit
Android Fitbit
Currently, the only wearable devices that are supported are Apple Watch, Garmin, and Fitbit. If you are using Apple Health, your steps must be tracked by carrying your phone with you.
You will be guided through connecting your tracker during the game sign-up and goal calculation process. To double-check which tracker you signed up with, or if you need to reset the connection, visit your account page in the WayBetter app. To find this, tap on your name in the lower right corner. Hit Trackers to see the tracker(s) you have connected and/or connect a new tracker.
What if my activity tracker doesn’t capture my steps one day?
Our stepping game uses the step count in your selected activity tracker as the authoritative source of your steps. It is your responsibility to keep your tracker on you, charged, and in good condition during the game. We cannot reverse disqualifications that result from your tracker being lost, out of battery, or broken.
What if the steps in my tracker and WayBetter don’t match?
First, please note that eligible steps must be tracked directly by the tracker you have connected to the WayBetter app. Steps tracked by other unapproved apps or devices are not eligible to count for your game, even if they can sync with the tracker you’ve connected to WayBetter. We cannot accept manually added activities.
Examples:
- Steps tracked with Pedometer+ synced to Apple will not count
- Steps tracked with a Fitbit synced to Apple will not count
- Steps tracked via Peloton and synced to Fitbit will not count
If your steps were accurately tracked with your tracker and are not appearing on the WayBetter app, please try the following:
- Double check that bluetooth is turned on for your phone and tracker
- Pull down the screen of your game to update your steps
- Force close and re-open the WayBetter app
- Delete and reinstall your WayBetter app
If these steps do not work, please email support@waybetter.com and include as much information about the issue as possible. Email as soon as possible to document the timing of the issue and attach any screenshots illustrating the potential discrepancy between your tracker and the WayBetter app. Your email must be received on the same day that the issue occurred in order for our Customer Support team to troubleshoot.
Can I change my sources of steps mid-game?
Once you select a source of steps, you must use that source until the end of the game. You can choose a different source for your steps when you begin a new stepping game.
What happens during a stepping game if I go to another timezone?
This depends on your phone settings and activity trackers. Some phones and activity trackers will adjust your phone to the local time of your destination. This may cause you to lose or gain hours in a game day. WayBetter stepping game players should plan accordingly before traveling.
For example, imagine that you travel from San Francisco to New York, losing 3 hours. If your phone or activity tracker automatically adjusts to the local time, you would have 3 fewer hours to complete your goals for the day - and should plan accordingly to make sure you get your steps! If your phone or activity tracker does NOT adjust to the local time, you would still have until midnight San Francisco time to complete your goals.
